What is Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 is a suite of productivity tools that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, Outlook for email and calendar, and more.
It is our new way to collaborate and store documents
Can I use M365 on my mobile device?
Yes - you can download Microsoft 365 apps from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). Sign in with your university email to access the apps
Can I use the native app on my phone instead of Outlook for email?
Illinois Tech permits the use of the official Microsoft Outlook application available on the App Store, Google Play and Microsoft Store in addition to Outlook Web. The native IOS and Android mail applications are available for use at Illinois Tech. IMAP and POP Aplications are blocked for security reasons
Can I still use Gmail and my iit Google account?
You will still have access to your Gmail, calendar and your Google Drive, however, your email and calendar will not function after 12/27, so using it is not recommended.
Additionally, we encourage you to not add new content to your Google Drive; Illinois Tech has plans to restrict access to it as of April 2025.
How can I forward my emails to a personal address?
Email forwarding to personal addresses have been disabled for security.

How do I access my new M365 apps?
Web Browser (Cloud): Available apps can be located at the top left of the screen in the hamburger grid.
Desktop applications: These will be located on your computer, if you download them. See downloading Teams Apps for help.
Mobile Device: Ensure you download M365 apps from your desired app store and sign into the apps after downloading.

I am not able to send or receive emails; getting a strange bounce back
The problem
Emails: All emails are delivered exclusively to Outlook. Google accounts are unable to send or receive any emails. Anything sent from Google will result in an error message being received in the sender’s Outlook. If you have calendar alerts or other alerts setup in Google this will fail.
You will receive error messages in Outlook, usually with a “5.7.1 error”
If you are using an Outlook client on your device and are unable to send or receive emails, please follow these steps to resolve the issue.
It is possible that your Outlook application is trying to use Google.
Steps to troubleshoot:
Try sending/receiving emails via Outlook Web. This will confirm that your account is functional.
On Your Browser:
- Go to portal.iit.edu and sign in.
- Select ‘Email’ from ‘Quick Access’.
If emails can be sent/received, proceed to the next step.
- Remove/uninstall the Outlook application/program from your device.
- Reinstall Outlook following these instructions
If they cannot be sent: send an email from a personal account to supportdesk@iit.edu to notify us of the issue; or leave a voicemail at 312-567-3375 with details of the issue.
Where are my files from Google located in Microsoft?
Your Google files - those that could migrate - are in your Microsoft OneDrive. Once in your OneDrive, go to "My Files", then to the folder named "GdriveOTScopy"
Can I rearrange my content?
Yes, as of 12/27 the migration is complete and you can arrange your OneDrive and other tools however you need to.
What happens to external sharing links?
External sharing links are not recreated in the migration, and will need to be resent by the person sharing.
I don't see my things migrated - what do I do?
look in Outlook on the web if the client is not working; check new OneDrive for GdriveOTS folder)
If you are still not finding your files, Submit ticket to the Support Desk to investigate migration issues.
My domain is now @illinoistech / @hawk.illinoistech.edu - what happened?
In alignment with Illinois Techs domain change in May 2025, we created aliases for each domain for now, as we transition. Nothing should change regarding your domain sign in's, you still have your original domain. However, in preparation for May 2025 when our domain formally changes we made this decision. We are staging and planning for the larger domain change through early 2025.
